Emergency crews were alerted to concern for a person at Harlaw Reservoir, on the outskirts of Edinburgh, shortly before 5pm on Monday.
The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) mobilised two fire appliances and specialist resources to the beauty spot after the alarm was raised.
Police Scotland said water searches were carried out, but the missing man was not traced.

SFRS said its crews left the scene at around 7.23pm.
A Police Scotland spokesperson added: “Enquiries are ongoing and water searches will continue today, Tuesday 26 August 2025.”
