Police said a 19-year-man is in custody and the area is currently being searched as a precaution.
The Utilita Arena Birmingham, where the comedian was performing, has been evacuated.
Birmingham Police wrote on X: “We are carrying out an evacuation at the Utilita Arena in Birmingham after a potential suspicious bag was found.
“A 19-year-old man is in custody and as a precaution the site is currently subject of a search. We will provide further updates when we can.”
The comedian left the stage 45 minutes into his show, according to reports.
A user on X wrote: “At Peter Kay at the Utilita Arena in Birmingham. He’s just been dragged off stage abruptly and we’ve all been hurried out.”
Another wrote: “That’s weird 45 mins into the show, Peter Kay got rushed off stage and we’ve been told to leave the arena.”
A third said: “Just been to see Peter Kay in Birmingham, after 45 minutes we were told to leave and show has been cancelled.”
Kay was due to perform at the Birmingham venue tonight and Saturday night.
