Former student charged with attempted murder after University of Surrey staff member shot with crossbow

Almunthir Daqamah has been charged with attempted murder, possession of an offensive weapon, two counts of possession of a bladed article and possession of class B drugs.

He was arrested on Thursday after the shooting at the University of Surrey’s student accommodation on Thursday.

The 21-year-old Saudi national was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after the incident at the student village in Guildford.

Officers were called to the scene at the university’s Manor Park Student Village at around 10am.

A man in his 50s, who is a member of the university’s campus safety team, was seriously injured and taken to hospital.
