The Yorkshire Wolds Railway team is looking forward to welcoming visitors back to Fimber Halt when they open for the 2026 season on Sunday 5 April.
Membership and media director Matthew Brown said:
“Throughout the winter period members of East Yorkshire’s only heritage railway have kindly worked in all weathers to bring an improved experience for visitors. Work has continued in the Visitor Centre and Working Facility adding lighting and power outlets for equipment, and this has made such an improvement on the working environment for members as it no longer matters what the weather is doing! The brake van has received a new coat of varnish, and our locomotive “Sir Tatton Sykes” will be unveiled in a brand new livery for 2026! Improvements have also been made for the visitor including moving the generator making the platform a much quieter place for those who just want a cup of tea and watch the trains go by.
“We are very fortunate in that 2025 was an excellent operating year for the YWR and set another record for us. Once again we hope that with the continued support of our members and visitors 2026 will be even better – and we thank everyone for that!”
The YWR is run entirely by volunteers, and anyone interested in becoming a member, making a donation or just finding out more can visit the Yorkshire Wolds Railway website or call 01377 338053 for more information.
The YWR will be running trains and opening the visitor centre every Sunday and Bank Holiday from 5 April until the end of October and every Wednesday during school holidays from 10 – 4. All trains run subject to availability. The visitor centre only will be open every Wednesday from 8 April until the end of October from 10 – 4. Additionally, there are members on site most Saturdays who will be happy to show what is being done, subject to safety requirements.
