East Riding of Yorkshire Council is excited to offer a variety of events and exhibitions across the region, from the coast to the countryside. This week also includes upcoming events for you to get excited about!
What’s on at East Riding Museums
Saturday 20 April sees the launch of Goole Museum’s 10th Annual Open Art exhibition. Running until Saturday 22 June, we have a wealth of artistic talent in Goole and the surrounding area and have some wonderful creations on display this year. Standards have previously been high, and this year is no exception.
For any art lovers out there, this is a must-see exhibition. Come along and be inspired or just enjoy the art. There are traditional landscapes, alongside abstract art, portraits, illustrations and digital artwork. There are also several excellent works in textile and ceramic. For some visitors it could be a fantastic opportunity to purchase an original piece of art for yourself, or someone special.
This year we are running a ‘people’s choice’ vote, so come along and choose your favourite work of art. The winner will receive a prize and an opportunity to have their own exhibition in our community display area.

Don’t miss Pocklington Food and Drink Festival this weekend
Pocklington town centre will once again host a Food and Drink Festival later this month.
Taking place on Saturday and Sunday 20-21 April, and based in the heart of the town centre, stalls will line Market Place, leading to a stage and seating areas in St Peter’s Square. The event will be even bigger this year, with additional stalls located in Railway Street.
The Pocklington Food and Drink Festival is set to be an exciting and fun-filled weekend. Visitors will be able to experience the best of the food and drink scene, with street foods, bars of distinction, al fresco dining, and select grocery food and craft, alongside live music, comedy and children’s entertainment.
This event is once again being delivered by the Market Square Group Ltd, a specialist events company with significant experience of running events, in partnership with East Riding of Yorkshire Council.

World book night
From 23 April librarians will be hiding books across the East Riding to encourage reading and the sharing of books. You might spot some straight away, but some will be hidden. Keep an eye out in your local area and if you find a book let East Riding of Yorkshire Council know on social media using the hashtag #ERLFoundBook.

Medieval re-enactment weekend at Sewerby Hall and Gardens: After the success of the event in 2023, Sewerby Hall and Gardens is set to welcome back Sir John Savile’s Household to the Grade I listed house in May.
Last year the group was fully equipped with a living history camp, complete with medieval tents. They demonstrated the everyday tasks of medieval life to visitors, such as chopping wood, fetching water, food preparation and often cooking meals on open fires to feed the camp, and this year the camp is set to be even bigger and better.
This action-packed interactive weekend is a must for families, children and history enthusiasts to learn more about this fascinating period of time.
