‘Teddy Rides Eddie’ at the Yorkshire Wolds Railway

Wednesday 20 August will see the Yorkshire Wolds Railway hold its ‘Teddy Rides Eddie’ event.

Celia Wilkinson, YWR member explained:

“Not many people know that before our locomotive “Sir Tatton Sykes” was delivered to us it was called Eddie, and we wanted to give visitors during the holidays another great reason to come and see us as when an adult buys a ticket on Wednesday 20 August, they will also get a free child ticket if they bring a teddy! This is a perfect summer holiday treat for the young, or young at heart. Trains are running from 10-4, with the last train at 3.30, and we are very much looking forward to seeing everyone’s Teddies on what is set to be a great day!”

Visitors to the YWR will also have the opportunity to explore the visitor centre, check progress on the new Visitor Centre and Working Facility, visit “Buffers” the on site shop for a tea or coffee and for a small additional charge take part in children’s crafting. In addition to its usual Sunday operating, the YWR is running trains every Wednesday through the school Summer holiday from 10-4, with the last train at 3.30.

Phil Robson, Finance Director said “2025 is looking set to be our best year yet and we are very thankful for all the support of visitors, members, and businesses alike. As a fully volunteer run, charity registered organisation, we need as much support as people are able to give to allow us to keep operating and moving forward. Events such as Teddy Rides Eddie will help keep the YWR in peoples thoughts as a great local attraction.”

The YWR is always keen to involve new people, and anyone interested in becoming a member or volunteering, making a donation or just finding out more can visit the Yorkshire Wolds Railway website or call 01377 338053 for more information.

The YWR will be running trains and opening the visitor centre every Sunday and Bank Holiday from 6 April until the end of October and every Wednesday during school holidays from 10 – 4. All trains run subject to availability. Outside of school holiday, the visitor centre only will be open every Wednesday from 6 April until the end of October from 10 – 4.
