An essential improvement scheme for a road in Pocklington is to begin this month.
East Riding of Yorkshire Council is to invest £600,000 to upgrade The Mile in Pocklington, between Chapmangate to Swineridge Lane, with the start scheduled to start on Monday 23 March.
The project aims to slightly widen the existing carriageway and strengthen its edges, resurface the road and footpaths, as well as enhance the drainage.
The works are planned to take place in three phases under 24-hour road closures.
The first phase, due to start on 23 March, will see a section of The Mile being closed between Garth End/The Mile Roundabout to the junction at Meltonby Road, and is scheduled to take seven weeks to complete, weather permitting.
A signed diversion route will be in place between Garths End, Yapham Road, Fangfoss Road, Yapham Road, Main Street, Meltonby Lane, Meltonby Road and The Mile.
The second phase will follow on, with The Mile being shut between Meltonby Road and Swineridge Lane, and will include a small section of Millers Lane.
A diversion route will be in place between Swineridge Lane, Givendale Hill, Main Road, Fridaythorpe Road, A166 York Road, A166 Garrowby Hill, A166 Garrowby Street, Garrowby Road, Pocklington Lane, Meltonby Road and The Mile.
The third and final stage is due to start on Tuesday 21 July to coincide with the school summer holidays.
The work is scheduled to take three weeks and will be carried out from The Mile roundabout to the junction of Chapmangate and Bridge Street. A small section of Kirkland Street will be closed to allow for junction resurfacing.
The diversion route will be between Bridge Street, Chapmangate, George Street, Yapham Road, Garths End and The Mile.
Residents and businesses will be able to access properties within the working areas, although there may temporary restrictions, which people will be notified about. Post, deliveries, bin collections and the emergency services won’t be affected.
The works will be carried out by contractor Britcon (UK) Ltd on behalf of the council.
