Reform UK’s Luke Campbell elected Mayor of Hull & East Yorkshire

Voters have chosen Reform UK’s Luke Campbell as the first Mayor to lead the newly formed Hull & East Yorkshire Combined Authority.

The results were as follows:

Luke Campbell (Reform) 48,491 (35.8%)

Mike Ross (Liberal Democrats) 37,510 (27.7%)

Anne Handley (Conservatives) 21,393 (15.8%)

Margaret Pinder (Labour) 18,568 (13.7%)

Kerry Harrison (Green Party) 5,049 (3.7%)

Rowan Halstead (Yorkshire Party) 4,372 (3.2%)

The turnout was 32.1% in the East Riding, 26.4% in Hull and 29.86% overall.

The role of Mayor is to work alongside local leaders. Together they will create a long-term vision and secure more investment for the region. The Mayor does not replace the leaders of Hull City Council and the East Riding of Yorkshire Council.

The Mayor will have responsibility over:

  • housing and planning with the power to –
    • designate a Mayoral Development Area and set up a Mayoral Development Corporation
    • use housing and land acquisition powers to support housing regeneration, development, wellbeing and growth
  • finance – the mayor can set a precept on council tax to fund mayoral functions. They have the power to charge business rate supplement. This charge is subject to ballot
  • transport – with a local transport plan and strategies. The mayor will be responsible for a multi-year consolidated transport for the combined authority
