Pupils, families and staff, past and present, are invited to join The Market Weighton School celebrate the school’s 50th annual walk.
On Friday 26 September, all 660 students will take part in a walk of up to 13 miles, with a shorter walk option ensuring the event is accessible for all. Former Head of PE, Dick Wilson, who established the walk in 1976 will join the event, along with his grandchildren who are amongst the pupils taking part.
Richard Harrison, Headteacher at The Market Weighton School said: “The school’s annual walk is always thoroughly enjoyed by children and staff. This year is extra special with it being the 50th event, and I hope to see lots of people within our community join us.
“The walk is part of the fabric or our school and is truly a whole-school event. It’s wonderful to have Dick Wilson join us each year, along with Linda Bell who also completed the very first walk. Linda helps our children with disabilities complete the walk.
“One of the highlights each year sees Year 11 students complete the full route in fancy dress – bringing colour, energy and plenty of smiles to the day.”
Students collect sponsors for completing the walk raising money for the School Fund and the school’s four student-nominated House Charities. This year the chosen charities are UNICEF, Cancer Research, The Cystic Fibrosis Trust and Martin House Children’s Hospice.
