Humberside Police to target road safety during July

Throughout July, Humberside Roads Policing Unit are supporting Op Spotlight, the National Police Chiefs Council campaign targeting ‘the fatal four’ on our roads.

The offences that make up ‘the fatal four’ include speeding, using a mobile phone while driving, driving under the influence of drink or drugs, and not wearing a seatbelt – all of which are among the leading causes of serious and fatal collisions on our roads.

Roads Policing Inspector Neil Hutchins said:

“As the weather becomes warmer and we head into the summer holidays, we see more people travelling in general but also outside their local area and on unfamiliar roads. With this already comes increased motorists on roads and an increased risk.

“Whilst looking out for these offences is daily business for my officers, with the World Cup, the warm weather and holidays approaching, we will be increasing our presence and taking positive action against those whose reckless actions put lives at risk.

“The message is simple – slow down, stay off your phone, never drink or drug drive, and always wear your seatbelt. The consequences of making the wrong decision behind the wheel can be devastating.”

Members of the public can report road traffic offences and dangerous driving by calling 101, or 999 in an emergency when safe to do so.

Members of the public can also submit video footage of suspected driving offences through the online reporting tool, Op Snap, helping police to identify and take action against dangerous drivers.
