Free events across the East Riding to mark National Carers Week

Carers Week is a national campaign which aims to raise awareness of the vital role that unpaid carers play in families, workplaces and communities.

It takes place between Monday 9 and Sunday 15 June and this year’s theme, Caring About Equality, highlights the many challenges which unpaid carers face from financial strain to social isolation.

To celebrate Carers Week, East Riding of Yorkshire Council’s Carers Support Service have planned a variety of events across the East Riding to bring people together and offer support.

Monday, 9 June, 2 – 4pm, Burnby Hall and Gardens. An event where carers can enjoy access to the grounds, along with refreshments and sweet treats served in the marquee.

Tuesday, 10 June, 2 – 3.30pm, East Riding Leisure Bridlington. Held in the cafeteria, this event will feature hot drinks and cake, along with the chance to participate in games and activities organised by Active Communities. Additionally, the Boditrax machine will be available for use.

Wednesday ,11 June, 10am – 3pm, open office at Carers Support Service building, Cross Street, Beverley. Several stalls will be set up to showcase their services, offering the chance to use the Boditrax machine and enjoy a complimentary therapy session. No need to book in advance, just drop by.

Friday, 12 June, 2 – 3.30pm, at East Riding Leisure Hornsea. Also to be hosted in the cafeteria, hot drinks and cake will be service along with the opportunity to take part in games and activities hosted by Active Communities. The Boditrax machine will also be available for use.

Due to limited availability the team are only able to accommodate carers, not the individuals which they support. This restriction does not apply to the open office event on Wednesday, 11 June, where everyone is welcome, hot drinks and cake will be provided.

Councillor Jonathan Owen, cabinet member for adults, social care and health at East Riding of Yorkshire Council said: ‘’Unpaid carers play a crucial role within our community, providing essential support to vulnerable people.

‘’We are extremely grateful for these carers who dedicate their time, effort, energy and resources to improving the lives of others.

‘’We are pleased to offer this selection of free events and hope to see many people attend to socialise, share in their experiences, and make the most of the support on offer.’’

The Carers Support Service provides advice, information, and practical problem solving for carers in the community.
