The final stage of a £1.2m road and footpath improvement scheme for Pocklington is due to begin in July.
East Riding of Yorkshire Council will invest £400,000 to upgrade the road surface along West Green, between Canal Lane and Railway Street, during the school holidays.
The scheme follows major work already carried out to improve town centre roads in Market Place, Market Square, Union Street and Railway Street, which began in January.
The West Green phase is due to start on Monday 21 July and last for five weeks, weather permitting, with work being carried out on weekdays from 9am to 5pm.
The work will involve resurfacing the existing road and repairing footpaths and involves:
Monday July 21 to Friday 1 August – Footpath repairs and kerb renewals will be carried out and temporary two-way traffic lights will be in place. This will be in preparation for slurry surfacing later in the year to seal some parts of the path.
Monday 4 to Friday 22 August – Road resurfacing and drainage works are due to take place under a temporary road closure during the daytime, from 9am-5pm. The road will reopen at the end of each day.
During those times a signed traffic diversion will be in place via A1079, The Balk and Station Road, and temporary three-way traffic lights will be in place at the junction with the Balk to help with the additional traffic.
Access to businesses along the road will be maintained during working hours, with residents being notified of any changes.
Access will also be given to residents, emergency services, bin collections and postal services during the resurfacing scheme.
Adam Holmes, director of infrastructure and facilities at East Riding of Yorkshire Council, said: “This phase will bring our essential road improvements for Pocklington’s town centre to a close.
“Thank you to drivers, local residents and businesses for their support of the work so far, and we hope that continues for the upgrade of West Green.
“Some delays are expected during the last section, with a diversion and three-way lights in place, and we’d like to thank motorists for their patience.”
The work will be carried out on behalf of the council by contractor Britcon Ltd.
Bus passengers are informed there will be changes to bus stops in this area and further detailed information will be given by bus operators.
