Voluntary, Community, Faith, and Social Enterprise (VCFSE) organisations have signed up to the White Ribbon Network to tackle domestic violence and abuse in the East Riding.
The network, led by Community VISON and supported by East Riding of Yorkshire Council, held its inaugural meeting and provided a platform for voluntary groups to coordinate their efforts in support of the White Ribbon campaign.
The White Ribbon campaign, a charity, leads the way on ending violence against women and girls by addressing the root causes of men’s violence against women. It tackles harmful attitudes, behaviours and systems around rigid gender norms and harmful expressions of masculinity, that perpetuate gender inequality and gender-based violence.
Seven organisations, from across the East Riding participated in the event in which they fostered a unified approach to tackling violence against women and girls (VAWG). The group explored challenges in tackling domestic abuse, learning and training opportunities and joint activities for White Ribbon Awareness Day, to be held Tuesday 25 November.
Schools in the East Riding have also obtained White Ribbon accreditation. Recent Ofsted inspection’s found pupils at Beeford and North Frodingham Primary Schools have a very strong sense of equality and fairness.
Councillor Lyn Healing, East Riding of Yorkshire Council cabinet member for communities and public protection, said “The launch of the East Riding VCFSE White Ribbon Network marks a significant step forward in our collective efforts to end violence against women and girls. By working together, sharing knowledge, and supporting one another, we can create a safer, more respectful community for all.”
Following the success of the first meeting, the network will continue to meet regularly, providing ongoing opportunities for collaboration, training, and resource-sharing.
Voluntary organisations are encouraged to join the network, engage with upcoming events, and help spread awareness of the White Ribbon campaign. The next meeting will be held on Thursday 2 October, and groups who would like to attend or sign up to the network are encouraged to email detty.tyler@communityvision.org.uk
