Over the weekend of the 26th & 27th September, the Yorkshire Wolds Railway near Driffield will be joined by members from the Hornsea Amateur Radio Club as part of the annual ‘Railways on the Air’ event.
Mike from Hornsea Amateur Radio Club said:
“This is a special event and many radio amateurs set up a radio station in or near heritage railway stations or locations. It’s a national event, but also attracts stations in Europe and on occasion, beyond. The challenge is to contact as many different stations as possible”.
Ivan Merino, Infrastructure Director at Yorkshire Wolds Railway said:
“We are really pleased to be able to host Hornsea Amateur Radio Club at the YWR again. They joined us for Rail200 last year and it proved very popular – so its great to have them back! Being fully open on a Saturday is also a great opportunity for those to be able to visit who can’t make our usual opening day of Sunday”
The YWR will be running trains and opening the visitor centre every Sunday and Bank Holiday until the end of October and every Wednesday during school holidays from 10 – 4. All trains run subject to availability. Outside of school holiday, the visitor centre only will be open every Wednesday until the end of October from 10 – 4. Additionally, there are members on site most Saturdays who will be happy to show what is being done, subject of course to safety requirements.
