Mark Blakeston has decided to stand as an Independent Candidate in the Driffield & Rural Ward in the upcoming local council elections.

Mark told Great Driffield Radio:

"After receiving lots of encouragement and support, followed by much thought and deliberation, I’ve decided to stand in the forthcoming East Riding elections on 4th May as an Independent Candidate in the Driffield & Rural Ward.

"Many people will know that I’ve worked with Driffield Town Council for several years and that I’m passionate about East Yorkshire, the Wolds, Driffield and local villages – so I see this as an opportunity to ensure Driffield and the surrounding area are always high on the agenda at the East Riding of Yorkshire Council (ERYC).

"I’m not setting out to promise to deliver a whole list of things because quite frankly, until I’m elected on to East Riding Council, I don’t know what’s possible. What I will promise though is that I will work hard to get a consistent hearing for our area. I’ve no strong political opinions - in fact, I’d question the need for them at a local level - however, I’m willing to work with any other East Riding Councillors to get things done if it benefits Driffield & Rural.

"Driffield and the rural area are facing lots of challenges, and with those will come opportunities to change things for the better. I’d like to think that I’ve a track record for getting involved with local issues, working with others to sort our problems and deliver projects that make a real difference. This is the ethos that I will take forward if elected as an East Riding Councillor representing Driffield & Rural."

In their first event for 2023, members of the Yorkshire Wolds Railway (YWR) are making the final touches to their annual model railway show. Now in its 6th year, the event will be held in Driffields largest events space, the Rix Pavilion on Driffield Showground on Saturday 18 March 2023 from 10am until 4pm.
