Sewerby Hall and Gardens' Summer of Fun will be back for 2019

Parents and carers looking for ways of keeping their children and family entertained need look no further, as Sewerby Hall and Gardens’ Summer of Fun returns from Saturday, 20 July with six weeks of holiday activities to suit all ages.

Event highlights to mark on the calendar include Yorkshire Day on 1 August, Wizard of Oz Day on 11 August, and a Summer Family Fun Day on 18 August.

The Yorkshire Day event, which celebrates all that is Yorkshire, will take place on Thursday, 1 August and will include a Rusticus Adventure: Up in the Air!, traditional swing boats, morris dancers, donkey rides, Yorkshire recipe making in the kitchen, making a Yorkshire flag, and also Yorkshire pudding and spoon races. In attendance will also be the East Riding’s very own town crier, Michael Wood, who will be hosting a competition for loudest town crier.

On Sunday, 11 August, Wizard of Oz Day will celebrate 80 years of the legendary musical movie by hosting a variety of themed events, including a Rusticus Adventure: In the land of Oz, face painting, craft activities and stilt walker scarecrows. Throughout the summer, in the Walled Gardens, there will be the Wizard of Oz garden trail.

The Summer Family Fun Day will take place on Sunday, 18 August, and promises to be jam-packed with serious amounts of fun and games. During the day, events will include the boot camp challenge, derby hoppers, Punch and Judy, donkey rides, face painting, traditional swing boats, the Morris Minor car rally, parrots and pirates and also an exhibition by the Bridlington Art Society.

There will also be many other events running throughout the summer, including a Rusticus Adventure: The Cliff-top Mansion Mystery; a Festival of Archaeology; Magic Days and face painting; zoo activities; Active Coast events; and a butler school.

The Summer of Fun events will continue until Friday, 30 August. The Clock Tower Café, zoo, adventure playground, pitch n’ putt and footgolf, and the house itself will be open every day, including an exhibition about life above and below stairs in the great days of the country house.

Facility manager Marie Gascoigne said : “We are really looking forward to the Summer of Fun once again here at Sewerby Hall and Gardens, with six weeks of amazing activities to suit all the family! We are especially excited about Yorkshire Day and Wizard of Oz Day this year, which will be a chance to celebrate one of the greatest films of all time.”
