Road improvement scheme about to start on Bridlington Road, Driffield

East Riding of Yorkshire Council has announced that a £70,000 programme of carriageway improvements is scheduled to begin at the roundabout with Bridlington Road and Fieldfare, Driffield, on Tuesday, 26 May.

The work will be carried out over five evenings from Tuesday, 26 May, from 6pm – 11pm, and will consist of removing the existing carriageway and laying a new surface. There will also be some improvements to the kerbs along the road.

For the safety of the workforce and the public, Bridlington Road and Fieldfare will be closed during these working hours. Access will be provided to residents, but it is recommended that if possible residents park their cars outside the working area during the working hours (6pm-11pm), to avoid probable delays getting vehicles through the works. Pedestrian access will be maintained, and access to Alfred Bean Hospital will be from the Driffield end only.

The improvement works will also mean the closure of the junction of The Ridings with Bridlington Road. The old road surface is scheduled to be removed on the evening of Tuesday, 26 May, between the hours of 21.00 and 23.00. The new surface is scheduled to be placed on Thursday, 28 May, between 21.00 and 23.00.

For the safety of the workforce and the public, the junction of The Ridings will be closed during the working hours. Access will be provided to residents, but it is recommended that if possible residents park their cars outside the working area during the working hours (21.00 and 23.00), to avoid probable delays getting vehicles through the works. Pedestrian access will be maintained, and access for emergency services will be provided.

During the working hours, motorists should follow the signed diversion route via Bridlington Road/ Scarborough Road and the A164.

Dave Waudby, head of infrastructure and facilities, said: “We would like to apologise in advance for any inconvenience caused by these works and the road closure, but we know that local residents have been keen to see these works completed, and will appreciate the improvements.”
