VE Day will be celebrated on social media at Sewerby Hall and Gardens

Although the planned events for VE Day this Friday at Sewerby Hall and Gardens can no longer take place because of its closure due to the COVID-19 restrictions, the venue will still be sharing VE Day celebrations on social media.

Singer Ruth Getz, one of the UK’s leading vintage vocalists, was due to be in concert in the Orangery. Instead, she has made a special film for the Sewerby Hall and Gardens You Tube channel, including her performance of a classic number from the 1940s, which can be seen from 08.30 on Friday (8 May), at this link: https://youtu.be/73OFMpZJe8s

In addition, wartime recipes and historical photos from the Second World War, when parts of Sewerby Hall were in use as a hospital, will be available on its facebook page : www.facebook.com/sewerbyhall

Marie Gascoigne, general manager of Sewerby Hall and Gardens, said :

“Although we are unable to enjoy our planned VE Day events, we wanted to play our part in the nation’s celebrations of this important anniversary. I am delighted that Ruth has recorded a special film for us, and that we are able to share some amazing wartime memories of the history of the house.”
