Get ready for an action-packed day of family fun as the Wagoners Challenge 2024 takes over Sledmere this Sunday, 19th May, from 10 AM to 5 PM! The 150 Regiment Royal Logistic Corps, in collaboration with the Museum of the Wagoners Special Reserve and Sledmere, is proud to host this thrilling competition to crown the Wagoners Champions of 2024.

This year’s event is brimming with a variety of activities and competitions that are sure to captivate attendees of all ages. Highlights include:
- Long Reining Horses: Witness the skillful art of controlling horses from the ground with long reins.
- The Bale Challenge: Test your strength and speed in this hay bale tossing competition.
- Showing In Hand: Admire the elegance and discipline of horses being led by handlers.
- Driving the General Service Wagon: Experience the historical significance and challenge of maneuvering these iconic wagons.
- Tug of War: Join in or cheer for teams as they battle it out in a test of strength and teamwork.
- Music from 150 Regiment Band: Enjoy live musical performances throughout the day.
- Khukuri Dance from the Queens Own Ghurkha Logistic Regiment: Be enthralled by the traditional dance performances of the Ghurkhas.

Celebrating Heritage and History
The Royal Logistic Corps, today’s inheritors of the Wagoners Special Reserve’s legacy, will showcase events that narrate the remarkable journey of these men from rural farms to the front lines of World War I. The competition will feature heavy horses from the Northern Heavy Horse Society, alongside local horse owners and breeders, bringing history to life through their impressive displays.

Admission is included with the usual Parkland, Grounds, and Gardens ticket, and entry is free for Sledmere Friends Members. Note that only cash payments are accepted in the catering marquee, so please come prepared. Don’t forget to bring blankets, rugs, or camping chairs for a comfortable viewing experience around the site.
