In a heartfelt announcement on facebook, the owners of The Bell Hotel in Driffield have said that the establishment will cease operations on February 13, 2025, as they enter voluntary liquidation.
The decision comes after an unsuccessful three-year endeavour to sell the historic hotel.
The following statement was posted on their facebook page:
Today has been a very sad day, we’ve had to tell our wonderful staff we’re going into voluntary liquidation and will be closed from 13th February. As many people will be aware we have been trying to sell the hotel over the last 3 years with no luck.
Two big birthdays to celebrate coming up this year, time for retirement.
We would like to say a huge thank you to all our customers past and present for your support over the years.
The Bell Hotel, an 18th-century Grade II listed Victorian building, has been a cornerstone of Driffield’s Market Place. Known for its traditionally styled interior, the hotel boasts 22 en-suite guest bedrooms, including several suites, and features a renowned oak-panelled restaurant and bar. The establishment also offers extensive leisure facilities, such as an indoor pool, sauna, steam room, jacuzzi, gym, and beauty salon.
In light of the closure, an auction of the hotel’s residual contents is scheduled for January 31, 2025, at the venue.
As the owners, George and Rita, prepare for retirement, many people have been reflecting on the countless gatherings, celebrations, and moments that have taken place within the hotel. The Bell Hotel and the staff that have worked there over the years, will be fondly remembered for the contributions to the town’s heritage and the warmth that extended to everyone who passed through its doors.
