New bus service for East Riding villages

A new bus service will start next month to help East Riding villagers travel to Pocklington.

Following a request from residents, East Riding of Yorkshire Council is to fund a new bus service to give passengers from Fridaythorpe and Millington the chance to visit and shop in Pocklington on market days.

The bus, run by York Pullman, will run on Tuesdays only and begins on 3 December.

The new service follows the success of the popular Wolds Explorer bus, which took passengers into the heart of the Yorkshire Wolds – including Millington and Fridaythorpe – on weekends and Bank Holidays between Easter and September.

The bus is being introduced by the council using Government funding it was awarded from the Department for Transport for Bus Service Improvement.

Councillor Paul West, the council’s cabinet member for environment and transport, said: “We have listened to residents in these villages and organised this bus service to give them the opportunity to visit Pocklington and support the market and local businesses.

“The Wolds Explorer bus was a big success, helping residents and walkers get around and use local businesses, so we are happy to provide local passengers with the new service.”

The new Tuesday service will run as follows:

9.45am Fridaythorpe (pond) – 10am Millington (Ramblers Rest) – 10.12am Pocklington (opposite bus depot).

Returning: 12.30pm Pocklington (opposite bus depot) – 12.42pm Millington (Ramblers Rest) – 1257 Fridaythorpe (pond).
