Plans for a new arts venue in Driffield are to be explored further after councillors agreed a business case should be developed.
The proposal centres on a site in Market Place.
Councillors were told the project could become the only permanent exhibition of its type in the country, but that significant challenges remain, including funding and staffing costs.
A full business case will now be prepared and presented back to full council no later than Easter 2026.
While some councillors raised concerns over costs and whether the venue would attract enough visitors, others said the town should be ambitious. Councillors were reassured that any proposal must be financially viable and should not place an ongoing burden on local taxpayers.
