Driffield Town Council approves new rules on grant funding

Driffield Town Council has agreed new measures designed to improve transparency and accountability in how public grant funding is distributed.

Councillors voted to require all organisations receiving town council grants to submit a formal grant application before any money is released — even where funding has already been allocated in the annual budget.

The meeting was told the council needed to demonstrate openness around its financial decisions, adding that the current system could be perceived as lacking transparency.

However, some councillors expressed concerns that introducing an additional form could overcomplicate the process for community groups.

Councillors agreed the new requirement will come into force from the 2026–27 financial year, using an amended version of the council’s existing grant application form.
