Hull and East Yorkshire Combined Authority Mayoral Election – Thursday 1 May 2025

Electors in Hull and East Yorkshire are choosing the first Mayor of the Hull and East Yorkshire Combined Authority.

Each of the six candidates have been given the opportunity by us to meet with our John Harding and participate in a one on one interview, with opening and closing remarks by them and have been given advance warning of the three questions to be asked.

Question 1

What more will you as Mayor be able to do to deliver to those who live, work and play around here that the existing local councils haven’t already and plan to deliver in the future?

Question 2

Local employers say that local people don’t have the skills they need to create better paid jobs – the existing councils already have links with those employers and must be aware of that – what can you as Mayor do to inspire both future employers and their employees and create those opportunities?

Question 3

Candidates are talking about improving public transport links but someone has to pay for those improvements – should these services come under direct Mayoral control, how much will that cost and why not just create better contracts for the bus companies to deliver – don’t they have the day to day skills?
