An East Riding team of young people will head to the Molineux Stadium in Wolverhampton to take part in the National Championship Cup this Saturday, 14 June.
Organised by the Wolverhampton Wanderers Foundation, the East Riding team will play against other six-a-side teams from around the country.
The event is for care experienced young people aged 16 to 24, and it is expected to see more than 200 young people take part.
Merlin Joseph, East Riding of Yorkshire Council’s Executive Director of Children, Families and Schools said: “I am incredibly proud that East Riding care leavers will be stepping onto the pitch at the iconic Molineux Stadium to compete in the National Championship Cup 2025. This is more than just a football tournament – it’s about confidence, connection, and celebrating the brilliance of our young people. I’ll be there cheering them on every step of the way and hope others will get behind the team too, whether through sponsorship or support. Let’s show the country what East Riding care leavers are made of!”
Councillor Victoria Aitken, cabinet member for children, families and education said: “To all our incredible young people from East Riding who have experienced living in care, your journey and resilience inspire us every day. Competing at the Molineux Football Stadium is a testament to your strength and determination. We are immensely proud of you and know that you will shine brightly on this national stage. Go out there and show the world what you’re made of!”
